April is National Volunteer Month and the time the Suncoast Humane Society uses to celebrate and thank the volunteers who give their time selflessly for the animals and people here in the community. Individuals such Saturday volunteers, Denise & Ed Harvey (each pictured here with a dog), spend a few hours playing with the dogs and just giving them extra love & attention while Mary Moreau (shown here in her trademark hat) comes in weekly to assist with clerical needs. There were 145 attendees at this year’s Volunteer Appreciation Dinner held at Beyond the Sea restaurant in Englewood. SHS volunteers range in age from 14 to 90 year olds. Volunteer Services Manager, Jacqueline Elliott, states, “Suncoast Humane Society volunteers play a pivotal role in support of the organization’s programs and services. With over 15 different volunteer opportunities, the dedicated team of volunteers assist with everything from fundraising, helping with donations at one of the three thrift stores, as well as socializing adoptable animals to help promote their adoptability and successful transition in to their forever homes.” For information on Volunteer opportunities visit the SHS website at www.humane.org.
