7/10/2018 5:03:00 PM Englewood Trailblazer Receives First Ever "Legends Award"
At the 2017 Smoked Mullet meeting the group decided that there are many people from the past who should be remembered for helping to shape our community, so they created the “Legends Award” which will be presented posthumously. This year’s recipient is JD Tate. JD arrived in Englewood on Christmas, 1925. He soon got a job driving a school bus. In the 1930s JD opened Tate’s General Store at Buchan’s Landing, later becoming the first butcher in Englewood. JD was always an advocate for Englewood and its residents and became the first State Representative from Englewood. Accepting the award was his daughter Carol (Tate) Garrett. Pictured with Carol is last year’s accepting recipient, John Bass, IV who is holding a picture of JD Tate.
