Kudos to members of Project Detect who recently contributed a $3,000 donation to the Virginia B. Andes Volunteer Community Clinic and the Englewood Community Care Clinic. Beth Harrison, Executive Director of the Englewood Community Care Clinic, Inc., wrote in a letter to the organization that Project Detect funds have allowed the clinic to provide 45 patients with cancer screenings. Project Detect was initiated in 2005 by the Riverwood Ladies Golf Assoc. with the goal of helping local uninsured and underinsured women receive mammograms in the greater Charlotte County area, and has been expanded to include early detection screenings for all types of cancer as well. The 501(c)3 organization holds fundraisers and this year through neighborhood giving, golf tournament, a 5k walk/run and the support of generous sponsors, the Riverwood Community was able to give a total of $54,000. The Clinic’s mission is to provide free medical services to the uninsured and working poor in the greater Englewood area. For more info about the services offered by the Clinic, call 681•3765.
