Lee Jagger Nugent passed away on March 16, 2018 at his home in Englewood at the age of 91. He had lived most of his life in Southampton, NY, where he owned Nugent & Potter, Inc., a wholesale supply house that had been started by his father in 1933. The business is currently in its 4th generation, being run by grandson, Lee Essay. Lee was a navy veteran of WW II and a member of Delta Sigma Pi fraternity. He had a long history of community involvement, serving as a Founder Member and Trustee of Southampton Golf Club, member of the Southampton Fire Dept. Engine Company, an Elder, Deacon, Trustee and Sunday School teacher of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Southampton, member of Southampton Village Board of Appeals, member of Rotonda Golf Club, member of Courtside Tennis Club in Venice, and member of Faith Lutheran Church in Rotonda.
Lee is predeceased by his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Boeckmann Nugent, whom he was married to for 67 years. He is succeeded by two daughters, Judith Poremba and her companion Joe Lamattina of Rotonda, and Constance Essay and her husband, Richard of Southampton, NY, four grandchildren, Kerry Kaiser of Englewood, Courtney Cronin and his wife Nissa of Greeley, CO, Lee Essay and his wife, Jana of Southampton, NY and Jeremy Essay and his girlfriend, Luisa Garcia of Southampton and NYC, and two great grandchildren, Wil and Esta Essay of Southampton. He is also survived by his brother, William Post Nugent Jr. and many nieces and nephews. Nephew, Roger Boeckmann, of Lake Ariel, PA, lived with Lee and Dot for a year, graduating from Southampton High School. He and Dot also hosted a Foreign Exchange Student for her senior year in high school, Martine Cesari from Roquebrune, France. Others spent summers and long visits with them.
Lee's passion was woodworking, making trays and lazy susans out of wooden wine crates, which he received great pleasure in giving to anyone who admired them. Many in our community are owners of Lee's creations. He loved his home on Lemon Bay, loved his family, his church and his neighbors and friends. He will be sorely missed.
