Barbara Ann Gerovac

Barbara Ann Gerovac, age 83 traded her cross for a crown on March 22, 2018 at 7 p.m. at Venice Regional Hospital.
Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
Born May 17, 1934 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Barbara married Joseph P. Gerovac on August 12, 1960. Barbara's life focused on faith, family, and service to others. She was an active member of her parish community where ever she and Joe lived and her various ministries included parish secretary, catechism teacher, bible study leader, rosary-maker, and parish seamstress (alter cloths, vestments, banners, and garment alterations). She traveled to Haiti to hold orphaned children.
To her family, she was the greatest teacher and each of her children inherited some aspect of her many, many talents. Whatever we attempted, she made sure we did everything to the very best of our ability - even if that meant starting over. Barbara's work here is done. She received a call, a sort of an offer you can't refuse, for an appointment from which she will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends she has not seen in a long time. Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be socializing, dancing, sewing, knitting, crocheting and crafting to her heart's content. Music, laughter and love are guaranteed. Food is delicious and you never gain an ounce! She would want her husband and children to celebrate her mission here, which has now been completed. We will remember her smile, her warmth, her energy, her love for life, family, and friends. She made a difference in the lives of many.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Leander and Flora Lorio . She is survived by her children: Christopher (and Nancy) Gerovac of Coleman, MI; Lynette (and Tom) Rachilla of Houghton Lake, MI; , Kimberly Ann (and Matthew) Prisk of Traverse City, MI; Melissa Jo (and Frank) Ambrosius of Traverse City, MI; and Paul Joseph (and Lori) Gerovac of Ludington, MI; and her Grandchildren: Michelle, Lee, Erin, Anne, Audrey, Alex, Spencer, Lily, Zach, and Courtney; and her Great grandchildren: Kylie, Cameron, Iris, Leif, and Elliot. Barbara thanked God for all of us every day and will be cheering us on to the finish line!
We invite you to join us and celebrate together at Barbara's memorial mass on Monday, March 26, at 9:30 a.m., St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Englewood, FL.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Suncoast Humane Society in Englewood, FL.
