DetailsMay 22-28 was National Safe Boating Week, yet the Radio and TV news, and many newspapers in our area still reported numerous boating accidents….but it is never too late to boat safe! Just sign up for one of our USGC AUX Boating Safety classes! Boating Skills and Seamanship The U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary's Boating Skills and Seamanship (BS&S) course is a comprehensive boater certificate course designed for both the experienced and novice boater. It allows you to qualify for the USCG, Florida, and other state Safe Boating Education Cards (after passing the exam)….which you must now have to operate boats with 10 horsepower or more. Topics Include: Which Boat Is For You? Legal requirements for your boat's equipment, Trailering Your Boat , Handling Your Boat, Highway(waterway) Signs, Rules of the Road, Boating Safety, and Weather and Boating. The course will be held starting Monday, June 14 and will run thru Thursday June 18, 6:00-8:00 PM each evening on Zoom. Cost is $35. SSS- Weather and Boating The focus of this course is hurricane preparedness and deals with how a boat owner should respond to the forecast of a storm of some intensity coming to our area. Suddenly in Command The captain of a vessel becomes incapacitated or falls overboard. You are the obvious person to take over, and you are Suddenly In Command. This boating safety primer is designed for those not generally at the helm, and will help you to be prepared with the basics in case of an emergency.
