On March 18, at Rumours Wine Bar, new owners Patrick and Le Ann Gunning celebrated their new wine bar with a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Chamber of Commerce. Patrick attended culinary school “for the fun of it” later in life and recounts his Italian grandmother’s cooking and early introduction to wine as influencing his interest in sharing his cooking and love of wine that led he and his wife to purchasing Rumours Wine Bar. Patrick has a strong background in wine and culinary arts while Lee Ann handles the marketing and event planning. They plan on introducing a larger menu and expanding into off-site events. The Englewood Amateur Radio Association is welcoming newly licensed ham radio operators into the club by providing them with their own radio transceiver. This provides them with a tool that will allow them to chat with other radio amateurs as well as learn emergency communication skills. This program is one of several ways that EARS is welcoming and encouraging new licensees to get started in amateur radio. Along with the new radio program, the club has established a mentor committee that will provide new hams with support and guidance as a way to assist them in the hobby. This mentor committee will keep in contact with the new members and provide them with a resource and “Elmer” network that can assist in many areas such as setting up the Ham Shack, radios and antennas to purchase, equipment diagnostics, and how to study and prepare for license upgrade.
