With hurricane season beginning June 1, North Port is looking ahead by hosting a Hurricane Expo to help prepare and educate area residents. This free event is set for Saturday, April 20, 9am to 1pm, at the George Mullen Activity Center (GMAC), 1602 Kramer Way, North Port. If you are a snowbird, here is the opportunity to learn about hurricane preparedness before you go north for the summer. The expo will have various experts on hand to assist you in preparing for storms. Presentations will be given by the National Weather Service and North Port Emergency Management, as well as the new Sarasota County Emergency Management Chief, Sandra Tapfumaneyi. The Sarasota County Long-Term Recovery Group will have a presence at the expo, offering information about Hurricane Ian resources currently available to effected residents. Along with the valuable information, there will also be a raffle for a generator and other prizes. The event is free and no registration is required.
