For 17 years, the professional choral group, Choral Artists of Sarasota, has celebrated Independence Day with rousing patriotic anthems and stirring inspirational choral works celebrating America. The choral group continues that tradition with "American Fanfare" on Monday, July 4th, 4:30pm, at the Sarasota Opera House, 61 N Pineapple Avenue, Sarasota. The Lakewood Ranch Wind Ensemble joins Choral Artists for a second year with a musical tribute to the Ringling Brothers Circus, the Revolutionary War, and the Civil War. A special tribute to the people of Ukraine is included in the program. Tickets are $5-$50. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.ChoralArtistsSarasota.org or call 941•387•4900.

I don’t care for Luhrmann’s tendency to favor flamboyant, over-the-top visuals over story and character development. I gave Australia one star and spent the last half of the movie yelling at the screen Rocky Horror style along with the four other people in the theater...

Buck Creek Launch
Located along Placida Road just south of the intersection with Winchester lies the Dr. William “Bill” Coy Preserve on Buck Creek. This launch opened in 2006 and our scouting then revealed a muddy mangrove opening with pallets strewn about to help folks with the mud. We were not impressed. A recent re-visit to the site was better...
