Details | Family Garden Club Scholarship Garden Plant Sale Our upcoming scholarship plant sale will be held on Saturday, January 16 at Paul’s Garden located at 1852 Whispering Pines Circle in Englewood. The sale hours are from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. This street is located off Englewood Road (highway 776) just next to the Lemon Bay Plaza (with the Big Lots store) and across from Englewood Isles. Signs will be on the road indicating where to turn. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic precautions are planned for the plant sale. In order to comply with the COVID-19 prevention guidelines we are requesting that people wear masks and practice social distancing when attending the sale. We will also have a limit of ten people in the plant sale area at any one time. If you have any symptoms of COVID-19, which include fever, cough, and shortness of breath, please do not attend. If possible, we are requesting all payments be made by check or by an exact amount of cash to limit the handling of money as much as possible. Thanks for helping us by adhering to the requests. When I asked our Master Gardener, Jim Chandler, he provided much information about the plants available for the upcoming sale. Prices range from as low as $3 up to $25 for Bamboo, with most plants under $7. Some of our inventory of plants for the January sale include, but certainly are not limited to the following: Starburst Clarendon (spectacular when in bloom), Brazilian Red Cloak, various Crotons, Yucca, Yellow Trumpet Vine as well as Bleeding Heart vines are ready for purchase. Somewhat unusual, the Bridal Bouquet Plumeria with its showy blossoms clustered like a bouquet, will also be available. Succulents include miniature Jade and spear Sansevieria. Then there are Golden Pathos and Purple Queen ground covers. New this year is Pumpkin on a stick, fire bush, and a variety of blooming plants. Many of the blooming plants consist of perennials that were grown by members and were started from seed. They include Arizona Sun Gaillardia – Blanket flower, Lucky star Pentas, Frosty Kiss Gazania, Toriana Mix Petunia, and Double Glorious Petunia. Many of these plants are currently blooming. Our plants are always locally grown, many in members back yards, so they are fully acclimatized to our weather conditions and growing requirement. Most of our members are experienced gardeners and will be happy to answer any questions you might have. At the sale, if you have questions, please ask one of our knowledgeable members who will surely have the answer. Proceeds from the plant sale will go to the Lemon Bay High School Scholarship Fund. In May 2019 we awarded two $1,000.00 scholarships at the awards ceremony. At the past twelve awards ceremonies the club has donated $25,000 by way of your purchases and generosity. Please check our website for the future dates as they are planned. |
