The good, the bad, the ugly: The Oscars
Last year my daughter Emma and I spent Oscar night at a party hosted by the Sarasota Film Festival in Sarasota. We dressed up and drove nearly an hour to watch the ceremony on a big screen with a group of people (remember groups?) while enjoying a lovely buffet (remember buffets?) Emma won the Oscar ballot, of course, and two tickets to the Festival’s closing night party in March, which was canceled, of course, due to COVID-19.

Welcome to Amanda’s “revengeapalooza bingeathon.”
One day last week, I went to my local theater to see Nobody, the number one movie in the country. Less than an hour after returning home, I rented the Oscar-nominated thriller Promising Young Woman. Both films are Rated R.

Let’s Get Real
This past year, when we haven’t been able to escape our homes much, who hasn’t enjoyed escaping via streaming? Your Guide to Golden Globe Award Winners
(that I’ve seen so far)
The Golden Globe Awards took place this past Sunday. While the virtual/live/bi-coastal ceremony was hit or miss, with audio mishaps, comedy bits that didn’t quite work and winners that I didn’t agree with, several very worthy performances, films and TV shows that I did agree with, were justly rewarded...

News Of The World (PG-13) and Our Firend (R)
Since Amanda’s livelihood depends on the movie business, second-tier horror conventions and the kindness of strangers, not necessarily in that order, she has ventured to the local cinema twice this past month. She is happy to report that her movie theater was cleaner than her house with nicer furniture, and that not once did a cat run into the soundbar on its way to the food dish...

Amanda's Picks
Apparently, I had to watch Bridgerton because literally everyone is watching Bridgerton. I would describe Netflix’s smash British period drama as Downton Abbey with more diversity, sex and swearing...
