Donations needed for Kiwanis Shoes for Kids Project

The Kiwanis Shoes for Kids Project is asking for tennis shoe donations now through July 26. These shoes will be distributed to kids needing footwear at the start of the new school year and subsequently throughout the academic year. Your help is needed to make sure all children have a new pair of shoes to wear and for gym class. The greatest need is for kids in elementary schools – Toddler size 12-13 through child’s size 5. Shoes do not have to be a name brand; any quality shoe will work. You can donate any size tennis shoes for pre-K through 12th grade. Shoes will be distributed at Myakka River, Vineland, L.A. Ainger and Lemon Bay High School at Back to School days. In Englewood, shoes may be dropped off at Englewood United Methodist Church, 700 E. Dearborn Street and at the Charlotte County Tax Collector’s office, 6868 San Casa Drive. Monetary donations are also appreciated. Send a check to the club’s 501c3: Sunrise Kiwanis of Port Charlotte, 1489 Market Circle, Unit 308, Port Charlotte, FL 33953. Project Coordinator Christy Smith says, “Any size shoes or monetary donation is a blessing!” For questions, contact Smith at 769•0864 or christyksmith@embarqmail.com .
