The planned bandshell in Dearborn Street Plaza will provide performers better acoustics and a real stage presence.
This is what a typical block on West Dearborn Street will look like after renovation.
The West Dearborn Improvement Project is still moving forward, the Sarasota County Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) has announced. The new design for West Dearborn renovation by consulting engineers Kimley-Horn will feature decorative crosswalk pavers, pedestrian friendly improvements, new streetlights, landscaping and some additional parking. Easement documents were mailed out to property owners on June 12. Once the executed easement documents are returned, the project will be bid out and then scheduled before the Board of County Commissioners for award of the bid. Because of the impact COVID-19 has already had on local businesses, CRA staff is recommending that construction not begin until mid/late April 2021. The South McCall Road Improvement Project continues to progress with Kimley-Horn working on utility work schedules and bid specifications. Easements are required because of the storm water drainage work that is needed. Sidewalks will be repaired and new lighting installed on the west side of the road. Construction start is anticipated to be August 2021. For the Dearborn Street Plaza, a new component will be restrooms and that construction is anticipated to begin in September/October. Plans for a new bandshell are now with Sarasota County Building Department. For questions, call the CRA at 473•9795.
