On April 22, the Venice Area Pregnancy Care Center (VAPCC) hosted over 50 people as the Center was re-blessed and a room within the building was dedicated to one of the founding members. The Reverend Jack Costello, retiring rector from Epiphany Cathedral, was on hand to re-bless the Center, post-renovation, and dedicate a clothing room to one of the Center’s founding members, Annette Steichen. On hand was Annette’s daughter Mary Kruel, a longtime volunteer at the Center, her granddaughter Kathleen Kreul-Laird and her great granddaughter Taylor Laird. Taylor surprised and impressed all when she donated money to the Center from her sale of homemade bookmarkers. The Venice Area Pregnancy Center was established in 1986 as a nonprofit and has evolved over the years. The Center currently assists families with young children in Venice and South Sarasota County with such items as new car seats, bassinets, diapers, food, formula, and layettes. They also distribute gently worn clothing, books, toys, strollers, pack ‘n plays and more as available. The Center is funded by grants, donations, and local fundraisers. If you would like more information regarding donations, volunteering or becoming a client, you can contact the Center at 485•1776, email them at vapcc4u@gmail.com, or visit their website at www.vapcc.org. VAPCC is located at 301 Bayshore Road in downtown Venice, and is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9am-1pm.
