Psst... Do you know about Wink's Old Town Grill?
By Chris Cameron

One of Englewood’s best kept secrets for good food is Wink’s Old Town Grill. This family-owned café offers breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, along with daily specials. All the food is prepared on site with daily homemade soups, entrees, salads, and homemade desserts at very reasonable prices. Families are welcome here along with everyone else who enjoys dining in a casual, relaxed atmosphere with attentive care from the owners and staff. This is a place, where after a visit or two, you will be recognized and welcomed, and staff will start preparing a favorite meal and beverage for you if they are familiar with what you like without you even asking. Outdoor seating is available in front of the restaurant and take-out is also available.
Breakfast combos include eggs fixed your way (along with hash browns, home fries, toast or muffin, and you can add a meat option, too), country fried steak combo, biscuits and gravy, chipped beef, scrapple, egg sandwiches, oatmeal, French toast, pancakes, and eggs Benedict. For lunch, there are sandwiches, such as BLT, Reuben, various melts, Atlantic cod, turkey, ham, grilled chicken, crab & tuna, and (of course) burgers, along with salads, grilled chicken, homemade soups, and fish/seafood/clam/shrimp or chicken baskets. For dinner, if you don’t choose the tasty and mouth-watering daily special, you can select chicken cordon bleu, country fried steak, rib eye steak, broasted chicken or seafood entrees such as lobster, shrimp & scallops, even surf & turf! If you prefer something lighter, those same lunch staples are also available. You may not have a beach view outside, but you will enjoy delicious seafood! Beverages are available for the entire family as well as beer and wine options.
Wink’s is currently owned by Eddie Piotrowski and his son Ed, who bought the restaurant in July, 2017. Ed’s mother, Robin, prepares the homemade soups, Hollandaise sauce, and desserts. Before opening, they updated all the equipment, remodeled, and renovated the small café. This is a business run the old-fashioned way with owners interacting with customers, homemade food, conversation (if desired), and serving each meal cooked to the diner’s perfection, one at a time, so there is no cross-contamination for someone with dietary allergies/preferences. A kid’s menu is available so the whole family can dine out at an affordable price. Fresh flower bouquets are placed on each table. Local historical photos are displayed on the walls so visitors can see what Englewood looked like in the “Good Old Days.” They also offer a Breakfast Club where you receive a free meal with a completed punch card. A vintage car club also gathers in the parking lot on Wednesdays from 8 to 10am for conversation and allowing others to view their cars. One quirk commonly mentioned by customers is the pleasure of clean and modern restrooms!
Wink’s Old Town Grill is open for dining on Monday, and Wednesday through Saturday from 7am to 8pm. Breakfast only is served on Sunday from 7am to 2pm. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays.
Wink’s Old Town Grill is located in Englewood Square Shopping Center about one quarter of a mile south of Dearborn Street at 451 S. Indiana Avenue (SR776). You will find them sharing a store front along with Bealls Outlet, Sunflower Discount Market, Real Bikes, Sears Hometown Store, and Richard’s. You can find the daily special on their Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/WinksOldTownGrillEnglewoodFlorida/, and you can reach them at 474-7777.
Once you eat there, you will start asking your friends, “PSST - Do you know about Wink’s?”
