On June 17, the Englewood Chamber honored those who significantly impacted the Englewood community at the Secret Society of Smoked Mullets Luncheon. Members of the community, along with past award recipients, gathered at The Waverly Restaurant to celebrate the winners. The winner of the 2022 Smoked Mullet Award is Eric Fogo with Key Agency. Eric Fogo grew up in Englewood, and his family built the restaurant that is now Farlow’s on the Water. He was in the first graduating class of Lemon Bay High School and has given generously of his time and resources to the area. The winner of the 2022 Legends Award is the Anderson Family. Accepting the award on behalf of the Anderson family was Carolyn Pope with Pope Insurance. Joseph Daniel Anderson, Carolyn’s great-great-grandfather, settled on a homestead near Forked Creek in the late 1800s. The Anderson family was instrumental in the fishing community that built the area. They paid their employees with paper coupons that could be traded at Ainger’s Grocery Store. The Smoked Mullet Award was started in 1996 to recognize an individual who helped create the Englewood of today and who has never been recognized with an award for their hard work and dedication. Legends Award honors historical families of the area who contributed to the settlement and growth of the area.
