Dearborn Street improvements soon underway
For over two years, plans have been underway to make substantial improvements to West Dearborn Street from SR 776 to Old Englewood Road. The Sarasota Board of County Commissioners awarded the construction contract to Wright Construction, out of Ft. Myers, at their meeting on May 4th. The contractor has 45 days to start the work. The improvements to Dearborn Street include new decorative sidewalks, lighting, signage, pedestrian gathering areas, additional on-street parking, and a gateway sign. Construction is slated to start in the 300 block of West Dearborn and proceed westward to Old Englewood Road. Once those sections are finished, they will move to the blocks leading east to SR 776. Dearborn St. Memorial Bricks Must Be Claimed Before Removed
Do you have a Memorial Brick in the sidewalks along Dearborn Street? The bricks are being removed as part of the Dearborn Street Improvement project, which will begin late May/early June. If you have a brick that you would like to save, please contact the Englewood CRA office at 473•9795 or send an email to englewood@scgov.net. The deadline for reclaiming a memorial brick is Friday, April 9. You can have your brick relocated to the Historic Green Street Church, the Lemon Bay Woman’s Club or the Englewood Veterans Memorial walkway. You are also welcome to pick up the brick for your own use. All unclaimed bricks will become the property of the contractor doing the removal.
