Englewood Art Center, 350 S. McCall Rd., will start off the New Year with Cycle 3 of their season, featuring artists Warren Loranger and Paul Spyropoulos. The exhibits run from January 2 to 30 with an opening reception on Sat. January 12, 2-4pm. Warren Loranger: A Retrospective (Warren Loranger Gallery): Warren Loranger is a philanthropist and artist who works primarily with abstract painting, using unorthodox materials and unique methods. Paul Spyropoulos: Painting (Ken Mitchell Gallery): Eighty-seven-year-old Paul Spyropoulos is a long-time member of Englewood Art Center. In the mid-50s, he attended the Catholic University Graduate School of Fine Arts and studied under Kenneth Noland, who later became one of the best-known American Color Field painters. Spyropoulos went on to live and work in New York City and exhibited, over the years, with other Color Field artists, including Morris Louis, Howard Mehring and Thomas Downing. This exhibit features his paintings from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. An example of Loranger’s paintings is above and Spyropoulos’ on the right.
