Free Kids' Vision Screenings Available

Thanks to community contributions and with the aid of a grant from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, the Englewood Lions Club is able to offer free vision screenings for children throughout the area. The state-of-the-art instrument can quickly screen children as young as 6 months old for a variety of vision problems, including “lazy eye”, nearsightedness, and farsightedness. During the screening there is no physical contact with the child and no eye drops are used. The handheld equipment resembles a camera and the child simply must gaze at the device for a few seconds to obtain a reading. “Thanks to the support we receive from the community, the Englewood Lions Club has the means to conduct this service,” said club president Lion Sandy Nieskes. “In addition to vision screenings, our club does diabetes screenings, provides free eye care and hearing screenings for those in need, collects used eyeglasses, and contributes to many local charities.” The Englewood Lions Club meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 6pm at 4611 Placida Road. For more information, please contact Lion Sandy at 698•7508 or visit the club’s website: englewoodfl-lionsclub.com. Pictured: Lion Kathy Norrod checks a young lady for vision problems.
