Sailing Classes Rescheduled

The Englewood Sailing Association has re-scheduled their Learn to Sail Summer Camps to July 6 to 10, July 13 to 17 and July 27 to 31. Youngsters, ages 10 to 17, will be introduced to the sport of sailing through these classes. John Riehl, President of ESA, says, “It’s great to see the youngsters go from knowing nothing about sailing to captaining their own boat. We are all volunteers here, and during the session we focus on building the three Cs, which are Confidence, Character, and Community.” The kids especially enjoy the Sea Grass Adventure according to Mike Basch, V.P. of ESA. The students net creatures from Lemon Bay and then learn about the bay’s ecosystem. At the family picnic held at the conclusion of the course, they show off their new skills by taking a family member out in a boat with them. Sessions are 9am to 3pm and the course is $150. Students must know how to swim. Boats are provided. Intermediate and Advanced Sailing Courses are also offered for students who decide they want to learn more. Adult sailing is also available for members. For more information log into www.swflymca.org/programs/online-program-registration/, then select “Specialty Camp” then “2020 Sailing Camp.”
