Edward William Wiegand, the patriarch of the Wiegand family, returned to the Lord on July 16, 2020. Ed was first and foremost the Wiegand family’s loving husband and father. He will be remembered for his unwavering love of family and friends, his tremendous leadership, courage, generosity, and joyful spirit.
Edward is survived by his wife Rose Marie of Englewood, Florida, and four children; Rebecca W. White (Ken) of Englewood FL, Melissa M. Wiegand of Manhattan NY, Edward E. Wiegand (Theresa) of Atlanta GA, and Kristin E. Domian (Bryan) of Englewood, FL. Edward was blessed with six grandchildren; Samantha, Elliott, Addyson, Kathryn, Alexander, and Andrew. Edward has been, and will always be, the guiding spirit and cornerstone of the family.
Ed was born on November 9, 1937, to William and Eileen Wiegand of Bronx NY. He is survived by his beloved sister, Eileen Thompson. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother William.
Edward graduated from Fordham University, where he obtained a degree in Economics in 1959. After graduation, he faithfully served in the United States Coast Guard for over 25 years, lastly as Captain for 4 years. His awards and honors include: 2 Meritorious Service Medals, 2 Coast Guard Commendation Medals, 2 Coast Guard Captain Achievement Medals, the Naval Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Reserve Medal. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, a Eucharistic Minister, and supporter of many charities.
Edward is dearly loved and will be remembered always through his wife, Rose Marie (of 57 years), four children, six grandchildren, and countless friends developed over his full and well-lived eighty-two years.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 20, 2020 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Lemon Bay Funeral Home (2 Buchans Landing, Englewood FL 34223). The Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at St. Raphael Catholic Church (77 Kilbourne Avenue, Englewood FL 34223).
