Murray F. Smith, Jr.

Murray F. Smith Jr. of Englewood, Florida passed peacefully on December 12th, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 13th, 1951 to parents Murray Smith Sr. and Maureen Gaynor. After graduating from Brockton High School in 1969, he went on to study at Lesley University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and an MBA. He worked in Sales and Marketing at R.S. Means in Kingston, MA for over twenty years before leaving in 2004 to pursue his lifelong dream to become a nurse. He attended Quincy College, earning an Associate of Science – Registered Nurse and practiced nursing for over ten years before retiring as a Hospice nurse in 2014.

Murray loved live music and attended every show he could; the Eagles were his favorite. He was a friend to all and showed his great sense of humor and wit in every conversation. He enjoyed visiting his son Jamie in Las Vegas where they played cards and shared their love of sports. Murray was quick to engage in lively political discussions and enjoyed reading the paper every day to stay up to speed on current events. He and his wife Katie travelled extensively in their retirement with a special passion for Africa that developed during two trips to five different countries on the African Continent. When he wasn’t travelling, Murray enjoyed spending time in retirement with his seven grandchildren and attending large gatherings with extended family around the country.

Murray is preceded in death by his beloved parents Maureen and Murray Sr. and brother Mathew Scott.

He is survived by his wife, Katie, as well as his siblings Stephanie, Leslie, Michelle, Allison, Scott, Maura, and Christopher, son Jamie, and step-children Laura and Michael. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, 16 December at the Lemon Bay Funeral Home, 2 Buchan’s Landing, Englewood, FL 34223

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Association.
