Dr. Bruce Frederick Hertel

Dr. Bruce Frederick Hertel, age 74, of Englewood, Fla., passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022. Bruce was born in Passaic, N.J., to Roland and Ruth Busse and was the grandson of Rev. Otto Busse. He studied at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and earned a medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis. Bruce trained as a pathologist at Stanford University and was a pathologist for over 45 years at St. Mary's Hospital and Howard Young Medical Center both in Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn; two brothers, Dr. Grant and David of Ariz. and Wis.; three sons, Will, Dr. Johann, and Kurt of N.C. and Ill.; four grandchildren, Ava, Ahren, Nora, and Roland; two daughters-in-law, Amy and Jennifer; two first cousins, Mark of Hawaii and Keith of Texas; sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bruce was a man of deep faith and a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed reading history, boating, fishing, and table tennis. He loved life and lived everyday with deep compassion for others.

A celebration of his life will be 11:30 a.m., March 11, 2022 at Englewood United Methodist Church.
