George Henry Tremblay, Sr., of Englewood, Florida, formerly of Lanesboro and Pittsfield, passed away on August 10, 2024.
Born in Pittsfield, MA on May 24, 1934, George was the son of the late Henry and Marieange (Roulier) Tremblay.
George graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1952 and immediately began his career with A&P Grocery Store. His dedication, friendliness, and natural leadership tendencies propelled him through the ranks from stocking produce to general manager of the first superstore in Berkshire County. George also enlisted in the National Guard after his graduation, where he served for 9 years. Ranking and career titles were never important to him, but the friendships he made were beyond valuable. After leaving A&P, George continued his artistry of retail at CVS pharmacies where he went on to manage several stores throughout Berkshire County.
If George could be described in one word, it would be comrade. He thrived in social settings. He regularly attended dances throughout his life, even helping twirl his granddaughters around the floor at their father-daughter dances. George also appreciated nice cars that had a need for speed. In his earlier years, he was an active competitor in Gymkhana racing and TSD road rally competitions with his favorite Austin Healy. After his retirement, George enjoyed frequent rounds of golf with his friends and was an avid downhill skier.
George was also blessed with two great loves in his life. He married his first wife, Judith (Brady) in 1960 and together they had three children, Theresa, George Jr., and David. They enjoyed 34 years of marriage. After Judy's passing, George met and married his second great love, Judith (Wowk), and they shared 26 years of marriage before his passing.
George is predeceased by his daughter, Theresa, his first wife, Judith, and his brother, Bernard. He leaves behind his sons, George Jr. (Cheshire, MA) and David (Stavanger, Norway), his wife, Judy (Englewood, FL), his stepchildren, Alan Provencher (Port Charlotte, FL) and Vicky Provencher (Pittsfield, MA), his sister, Annette Thoubboron (Pittsfield, MA), seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and his cherished cat, Charlie.
While there is no formal celebration of life scheduled, we ask that friends and family celebrate George's life by doing something he loved; catch up with a friend, do a dance, admire a fast car driving by, or play a round of golf. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Suncoast Humane Society in Englewood, FL.
