NORTH PORT, FL — Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our community, vendors, staff and contracted entertainers, the City of North Port has made the difficult decision to postpone the annual Freedom Festival originally scheduled for July 4, 2025, at CoolToday Park. We are actively working with vendors and contracted entertainment partners to identify rescheduling options and to facilitate refunds where needed.

This decision was not made lightly. Recent forecasts indicate a high probability of lightning that would result in periodic closures, along with unpredictable weather patterns that could compromise the safe execution of fireworks and other planned activities

Additionally, we must consider the risks associated with the continued wet conditions and sudden downpours, which can jeopardize both personal safety and equipment. Given the recent string of lightning-related incidents across Florida, including serious injuries and property damage, we are committed to prioritizing the well-being of all who would attend or work at the event.

By making this proactive decision, we can thoughtfully redirect resources towards a rescheduled date and avoid potential penalties.

“We understand how much this event means to the community, and we share in the disappointment,” said Shelby Mendelson, Recreation Manager and event organizer. “The safety of our residents, staff and visitors is always our top priority. We’ve thoroughly evaluated every alternative, but with the weather as unpredictable as it is, postponing is the responsible choice.

City staff is has set the new date for Saturday, August 30, 2025. The rescheduled Freedom Festival will maintain the same spirit of celebration, with live music, food trucks, family activities, and, of course, fireworks lighting up the night sky. We’re excited to bring everyone together for an amazing celebration in August.
