After nearly three years of investigation, Cape Coral police finally took down a sprawling fraud ring, seizing $120,000 in cash and a stash of drugs. The operation, carried out on September 8, 2026, capped off an investigation that started back in November 2023.

This wasn’t a solo effort. Police worked closely with the U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force out of Fort Myers and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. The Economic Crimes Unit stood at the core of the process. They tracked a group whose members operated like a well-oiled machine, each with a role, passing around victims’ personal data and using social media to twist the knife. Their goal? Fraud and profit.

Detectives followed the trail to all kinds of crimes: scams, identity theft, forged checks, vehicles swiped right out from under people, other property crimes, and plenty of drug offenses. Any money they made paid for more schemes, more drugs, and even knockoff goods they sold to keep the operation going.

Investigators didn’t stop at paperwork. They dug through financial records, set up surveillance, leaned on confidential sources, and sifted through everything from phone data to social media. The work paid off. In the end, they filed 50 felony charges and executed about 60 search warrants targeting homes, banks, electronic accounts, social media profiles, cell phones, vehicles, just about anything connected to the ring.

Cops seized around $120,000 in cash, a cloned Dodge Hellcat, counterfeit luxury watches and merchandise.
