This September, Lemon Bay Playhouse is excited to open its 39th season with “Theatre People or The Angel Next Door.” It’s a witty and energetic comedy by Paul Slade Smith, with Ric Goodwin directing.

Set in Newport, Rhode Island, the story drops us in the middle of a weekend where theatre, romance, and literary ambition crash together. Oliver Adams has one foot in a dream; his novel, “The Angel Next Door,” is about to hit bookshelves, and seasoned Broadway playwrights Charlotte and Arthur Sanders have transformed it into a play they bet will be a smash. There’s just one hitch: Charlotte and Arthur want Margot Bell as the star, and Margot is Oliver’s muse (and secret crush), though she’s clueless she inspired his book.

‘Theatre People or The Angel Next Door’ Courtesy LBP

When everyone gathers in a mansion with surprisingly thin walls, secrets leak, and the air practically sizzles with rivalry, hope, and mischief. Margot might not be the perfect “angel” Oliver wrote about, and as the weekend unravels, so do plenty of assumptions, onstage and off.

Linda Ramzell, Leo Dominique, Jimmy Choate, Tricia Petrinovich, Alisha Hunter, and Tan Selby bring these unpredictable, delightful characters to life. Expect a night packed with sharp banter, surprising twists, and the spirited chaos that makes a theatre crowd feel right at home.

The entertainment doesn’t stop at the stage. Susana Falcon, the Lemon Bay Playhouse executive-artistic director, says on opening night the characters from the show will sing and play piano in the lobby alongside a wine tasting hosted by Bryan Kobos of SWFL sulfate-free wines.

The Lemon Bay Playhouse lobby will also feature an exhibit by artist Dale Fowler, curated by Erik Groff of the Englewood Center for the Arts. Erik is also creating an eclectic collection within our freshly renovated conference room redesigned for corporate and community events.

Here’s what you need to know:

Opening Night: September 2

Final Performance: September 20

Looking for a place to connect with others who truly understand what you’re facing? Join the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Group at Heritage Oaks of Englewood. Their next meeting is Tuesday, January 13th, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. They’ll gather in the Media Room on the second floor, and yes, there will be light refreshments.

This group isn’t just about sharing stories, it’s about building real support in a space that feels safe and welcoming. Heritage Oaks of Englewood hosts these meetings to help you find community, answers, and understanding.

You’ll find Heritage Oaks at 7374 San Casa Drive, right on the corner of Placida Road and San Casa Drive in Englewood, on the border of Charlotte and Sarasota Counties. The place itself feels like home. Whether you’re interested in assisted living, memory care, or a short-term stay, they’ve designed their community to help residents live life to the fullest. Picture catching a movie, chatting with friends at the bistro, or just relaxing on the sunny patio in a rocking chair.

Interested in joining the support group? RSVP by calling 941-698-2600. Want to learn more about Heritage Oaks and their approach to memory care? Visit their website for details at heritageoaksliving.com.

If you’re looking for other support groups in the area, check the Alzheimer’s Association’s event search or reach out to the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter at 800-272-3900. You’re not alone in this—help and community are available.
