As we gear up for Pioneer Days 2026, it’s the perfect moment to thank our 2025 Grand Marshal, Nancy Wille. Nancy’s connection to Englewood runs deep; five generations of her family have put down roots here. She remembers her own path: “I had a sewing shop on Dearborn Street. I ran it for 12 years until my hands gave out. So I went back to school, took computer classes, got a job at the bank, and ended up as a computer programmer.”

Nancy’s father, Bob Scott, brought his outboard motor business to Englewood in 1955 and was there at the very start of Pioneer Days. Since then, Nancy has always helped. “I’ve been involved ever since the first year: parade, Shark Weigh-In, Little Miss Contest, cardboard races, and just about every event you can think of during the Pioneer Days weekend. The parade? That’s the best part.”

Being part of the Lemon Bay Historical Society, a group that grew right out of Pioneer Days, means a lot to her, too. “We’ve had a Historical Society float in the parade since the beginning,” Nancy says with pride.

Sports have always been a big part of Nancy’s life. She’s played since she was a kid and kept it up through adulthood: adult softball, volleyball, even outboard boat racing. She’s put over 250,000 miles on her motorcycles. Along the way, she’s earned a stack of honors: the Mullet Award, the Englewood Legacy Award, and the 2025 Grand Marshal title. “I’m so honored by all these awards,” she says.

Nancy shines as a spokesperson, too. She works with the Lemon Bay Historical Society to present “Then and Now” historical videos about the local area, teaming up with Esther Horton to keep our Englewood stories alive.

Nancy, thank you for being a remarkable Grand Marshal and for everything you do for Englewood. You make this community stronger every day.

What is your most marked or distinctive characteristic?

I enjoy being helpful.

What do you most value in your friends?

When they listen to you.

Who are your heroes in real life?

My dad was my hero.

What are your favorite names?

Just good ol’ Nancy.

What is it that you most dislike?

People that don’t follow the rules or take criticism.

What is your greatest regret?

Not going to school and to teach sewing but had a sewing shop.

What is your motto?

To help others before you help yourself.

Every edition, Englewood REVIEW spotlights someone who stands out in the community. We ask each person to tackle The Proust Questionnaire; a classic set of questions created by Marcel Proust, the French writer.
