Vivian Hamstra, 67, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025, in Englewood, Florida. She was born on September 14, 1957, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and spent most of her life in West Michigan before moving to Florida in 2015.
Vivian built a fulfilling career in banking as a loan officer and mortgage officer. She took great pride in helping others achieve their financial goals, guiding them with patience and care.
Outside of work, Vivian found her greatest joy in her garden. She took immense pride in creating a beautiful and welcoming backyard oasis, where she lovingly tended to her flowers and plants. Her home-especially the poolside-was a place of warmth and hospitality, always open to friends and family for laughter and shared memories.
Vivian was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Hamstra, in 1997. She is survived by her son, Nathan, and his wife, Paige. She is also survived by her seven siblings: Robert Schmuker II, Mark Schmuker, Jeffrey Schmuker, Mary VanSpronsen, William Schmuker, Bradley Schmuker, and Jeff Abdalla.
Though she made Florida her home in later years, her heart always remained in West Michigan. Vivian’s kindness, strength, and generous spirit will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor this summer. To celebrate Vivian’s love of gardening, the family kindly requests donations of perennial plants or seeds to be planted in her name.
