Nonprofit developers, for-profit developers, Sarasota County public entities, public housing authorities and nonprofit organizations in Sarasota County can now apply for the Resilient SRQ Multifamily Affordable Housing Program.
The application period runs from September 15 through October 24. Proposals must align with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development requirements and be submitted online.
Funding comes from Sarasota County’s $210 million allocation of Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery resources from HUD. The money is intended to increase affordable housing availability following the 2024 storms Debby, Helene and Milton.
Eligible applicants include nonprofit developers, for-profit developers, public housing authorities, county public entities and nonprofit organizations operating in Sarasota County.
Two information sessions will be offered: September 18 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at 301 N. Cattlemen Road, Suite 200, Sarasota, and September 24 from 2 to 3:30 p.m., held virtually. Registration is required.
To qualify, projects must propose at least five rental units with at least 51 percent designated as affordable, agree to a minimum 20-year affordability period, and include mitigation measures. Projects must also demonstrate secured or pending underwriting.
Applications will be reviewed and scored by county staff based on criteria approved by the Sarasota County Commission. Final project selections will be made by the commission, and approved applicants will enter agreements outlining project-specific requirements.
Resilient SRQ previously launched the Hurricane Ian Multifamily Affordable Housing Program in March 2024. That round awarded $48 million to 10 projects, resulting in at least 476 new affordable housing units for income-qualifying households.
