Sarasota County officials will hold a public hearing on October 16 to review several proposed changes to land use and zoning around the West Dearborn area.
The 5p.m. meeting will take place at the Robert L. Anderson Administration Center, 4000 South Tamiami Trail in Venice.
The proposals include:
- Changing a land use designation on 2.3 acres near West Dearborn Street from residential to commercial center.
- Updating the definition of mixed-use development to make clear that projects can include both homes and businesses on the same property, and increasing the height limit for residential buildings to 45 feet.
- Rezoning 3.73 acres near West Dearborn and Green streets to commercial zoning with updated rules.
- Allowing exceptions to permit single-family and multi-family homes in the commercial area, valet parking in a residential multifamily area, and boat slips and related uses in the marine park district.
The proposals affect property south of West Dearborn Street and southwest of West Green Street.
