Florida National Guard Brings “Night Vision” Program to Englewood

ENGLEWOOD — The Florida National Guard’s Counterdrug Task Force will present its “Night Vision: Substance Use Prevention” program on Friday, November 21, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Social Hall of Christ Lutheran Church, 701 North Indiana Avenue. The event, titled “Fun Night Done Right,” is free for all middle and high school-age youth and includes free food, games and prizes.

The presentation, hosted by the Englewood Community Coalition, uses interactive tools such as goggles and visual demonstrations to help young people understand the effects of drugs and alcohol. Topics include gateway drugs, peer pressure, misuse and addiction, and the importance of staying drug-free.

According to Florida National Guard sources, Night Vision has reached more than 100,000 students across Florida since 2019, combining current data, trends, and real-world examples with hands-on learning. The session fulfills state education standards for substance use prevention and is free to schools and youth organizations

The Florida National Guard’s Drug Demand Reduction Outreach team, recognized nationally for its prevention work, will lead the session. Attendees will have the chance to experience firsthand how drugs can impair vision, coordination, and decision-making.
