Starting Monday, residents in Lee County have a limited window to apply for affordable housing. The Housing Authority of the City of Fort Myers is opening waitlists for all six of its Project-Based Voucher Program properties. If you’re eligible, you can apply online from 8 to 10 a.m. on May 18, just two hours, so make sure you’re ready.
Eligibility depends on your income, and some properties have additional requirements. You’ll find those details at HACFM.org/Find-Housing/HCVP-Section-8/. The properties include Broadway Apartments, Covington Meadows, and Stella Apartments for families, and Coconut Grove Apartments, Latimer Crossing, and Swanson Loop for seniors. These communities offer units with one to five bedrooms across Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres, and North Fort Myers.
To apply, you’ll need to fill out the online form at Apply.HACFM.org during the two-hour window and pick the properties you’re interested in. The organization offers units on a first-come, first-served basis, so you should apply right at 8 a.m. helps your chances. After you submit your application, you have 14 days to send in a verification of preferences. You’ll get a confirmation email and stay on the waitlist until a unit is available, and you’re contacted for an eligibility appointment.
If you can’t apply online because of a disability or another limitation, you can ask for help by calling 239-344-3220 or emailing PBVwaitlist@HACFM.org.
