Area Government Holiday Closures

Government offices and public facilities across North Port, Charlotte County and Sarasota County will close on Thursday, November 27, and Friday, November 28, in observance of Thanksgiving. Several services, including garbage collection and recreation facilities, will operate on modified schedules.

In North Port, city offices will be closed both days. The Canine Club Dog Park will remain open and will follow its regular Wednesday maintenance closure on November 26.

Charlotte County government business offices, including the Administration Center, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser, Supervisor of Elections and Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller, will be closed November 27 and November 28. The Punta Gorda and Englewood Beach Visitor and Convention Bureau office will be closed. Utilities customer service offices will be closed, but electronic and phone payments will remain available. Standby staff will respond to water and sewer emergencies. Garbage collection will be suspended on November 27, with Thursday routes moved to November 28 and Friday routes moved to November 29. Transfer stations in West County and Mid-County will be closed both days, reopening November 29. The Zemel Road Landfill will be closed November 27 and open November 28. Charlotte County Transit will be closed November 27, November 28 and November 29.

All Human Services Offices, Fire and EMS Headquarters, Community Services Administration, Charlotte County Libraries and History Services Offices, the Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center and Charlotte Sports Park county offices will be closed. Most public libraries will be closed November 27 and November 28. The Captain Don Cerbone Memorial Skate Park will be open, while the J. M. Berlin Rotary Skate Park will be closed. All recreation centers will be closed November 27, with Centennial Park Recreation Center reopening November 28 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pools at Ann and Chuck Dever Regional Park and South County Regional Park will be closed both days. Centennial Park Pool will be closed November 27 and open November 28 with passholder swim, lap swim, water aerobics and recreational swim available throughout the day.

Sarasota County government offices will be closed November 27 and November 28. There will be no garbage, recycling or yard waste collection on November 27, with service operating one day late. Thursday routes will run November 28 and Friday routes will run November 29. Sarasota County recreation facilities, including Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, Lido Pool, Payne Park Tennis Center and the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, will be closed November 27 and November 28. The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall box office will be closed November 27 and will reopen November 28.
