A garage fire on Fairway Drive prompted a joint response from the Englewood Area Fire Control District and Charlotte County Fire and EMS on Monday afternoon, December 8. Fire crews said they arrived to find an active garage fire and quickly worked to keep it from spreading into the home.
According to the Englewood Area Fire Control District, crews searched the property after the fire was brought under control. “Captain McDaniel found the family dog, Charlie, in her crate on the back porch beside a door where smoke was billowing through,” the District said. As a precaution, Firefighter Connor Alexander and Charlotte County Firefighter Todd Schwalbe provided oxygen using a pet-specific mask carried on their engines. The District reported that Charlie did not appear to suffer lasting issues.
Officials said no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Responding units included BN7, Engine 72, Engine 73, Engine 74, Engine 76, EF1, Tower 75, Charlotte County Fire and EMS Rescue 4 and Battalion 3.
