Charlotte County Accepting Nominations for Environmentally Sensitive Lands

Charlotte County Community Services is inviting the public to nominate environmentally sensitive lands for possible acquisition using remaining funds from the 2006 Conservation Charlotte referendum.

Approved by voters in November 2006, the Conservation Charlotte program was established to protect wetlands, wildlife habitat and water resource lands throughout the county. According to county officials, the program has preserved critical natural areas for nearly two decades, with remaining funds now available before the initiative sunsets.

County officials emphasized that nominations are open to everyone. “Anyone can nominate a property. You do not need to own the land,” the county stated in its announcement, noting that the focus is on ecological value and public benefit rather than ownership.

Nominated properties will be evaluated based on several criteria, including rarity, habitat quality, water resources, connectivity to existing conservation lands and long-term manageability.

Nomination forms are available online atwww.CharlotteCountyFL.gov/conservationcharlotte
