
Archaeologist Michelle Calhoun will address the lightning whelk during the Archaic at the Manasota Beach Club. Calhoun’s presentation will discuss the significance of this carnivorous, bottom-dwelling gastropod to Native Peoples, the routes most likely taken to procure them, and what their purpose was in transporting these shells over such immense distances. All are welcome to attend these “lecture and learn” sessions, held on Mondays from 10:00 to 11:30 AM, with light refreshments provided. $30.
