Englewood Students Collaborate with the Englewood Amateur Radio Society for a Real-World Weather Balloon Flight

Getting ready for the balloon launch

SKY Academy Englewood students took their learning to new heights, literally, when they launched a weather balloon on February 19, 2026.

The balloon is in the air – launch was a success!

The Englewood REVIEW team caught all the action as students teamed up with the Englewood Amateur Radio Society to pull off the launch. This wasn’t just another science lesson. Students received hands-on experience, rigging the balloon and prepping it for flight, chasing real data instead of just reading about it in a textbook.

This project is all about getting students into the thick of things, actually doing science, not just talking about it in class. The partnership with the Englewood Amateur Radio Society (EARS) made it possible, giving students a front-row seat to what STEM looks like in the real world.

The EARS team prepares for lift-off
