Second Suspect Arrested in Englewood Vacant Home Burglary Spree

A second suspect is now in custody after a series of break-ins at vacant homes in Englewood, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. This investigation has been unfolding since late 2025.

Deputies say they’ve been tracking a string of burglaries that targeted empty houses in the area. During their investigation, detectives found that Shyla M. Robinett sold some of the stolen goods online. Authorities arrested her on February 19 for two counts of dealing in stolen property, then again on February 25 for another related count.

The case didn’t stop there. Detectives uncovered additional burglaries at homes on the Sarasota County side of Englewood, with clear links to the Charlotte County crimes. Working together, investigators from both counties identified Mark A. Brown as another suspect. Sarasota County deputies arrested Brown on February 27, acting on two active warrants from Charlotte County.

Sheriff Bill Prummell addressed the community after these arrests. “Englewood residents can sleep easier tonight knowing these suspects are being held accountable. I’m proud of my detectives’ hard work and grateful for the teamwork with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. We’ve proved again that Southwest Florida law enforcement gets the job done,” Prummell said.

Detectives are still working on the case. Both Robinett and Brown could face more charges as the investigation moves forward, the Sheriff’s Office said.
