Operation Green Light Returns to Lee County: A Second Chance for Suspended Drivers

A second chance for suspended drivers in Lee County.

In 2026, roughly one in 24 driving-age adults in Florida, totaling just over 716,000, cannot legally drive. Florida suspends its licenses mainly because of unpaid fines. Out of nearly 14 million registered drivers, around two million people in the state have a suspended or revoked license.

Lee County, in Southwest Florida, is running an Operation Green Light event from April 14 to 17, 2026. This event gives people with suspended licenses a real shot at getting back on the road.

During those four days, the Clerk of Court runs an amnesty-style program, waiving certain fees to make it easier for drivers to settle up. The primary draw? If you’ve had fines sent to collections, the usual 25% surcharge disappears.

Operation Green Light for Lee County residents:

– The event helps those with suspended licenses or overdue traffic tickets sort out their cases and possibly get their licenses back.
– They waive the 25% collection surcharge for eligible fines.
– You can go to the Lee County Clerk’s Office at the Justice Center downtown Fort Myers or the Cape Coral branch.
– Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. except for Thursday, April 17, when the Justice Center stays open till 6 p.m.
– You can set up affordable monthly payment plans during the event.

To find out if you qualify and book an appointment, call the Lee County Clerk of Court at 239-533-5000 (option 2).

Don’t wait, as Operation Green Light is a limited-time chance to take care of old fines and finally drive legally again.
