Charlotte County Master Gardeners Host Open House for Local Green Thumbs

Gardening enthusiasts across Englewood, North Port, and Wellen Park are invited to explore the beauty and practicality of Southwest Florida horticulture during the Charlotte County Volunteer Master Gardener Demonstration Gardens Open House on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The free event, held at the UF/IFAS Extension Charlotte County office at 25550 Harborview Road in Port Charlotte, offers visitors a chance to see what thrives in the local climate and learn how to apply those lessons at home. Established more than two decades ago, the demonstration gardens serve as a living laboratory maintained by Master Gardener Volunteers to showcase native and well-adapted plants in full maturity.

Guests can stroll through themed areas including butterfly and native plant gardens, ornamental trees, ground covers, and cacti and succulent displays. The setting features brick pathways, vine-covered pergolas, and educational signage highlighting Florida-friendly landscaping. Visitors with an interest in edible gardening can view raised vegetable beds, grapevines, and a tropical fruit garden. Complimentary vegetable seedlings will be available while supplies last.

Informational booths and live demonstrations throughout the morning will provide practical gardening advice from experts. From plant selection and pest management to soil care and irrigation techniques, the event aims to support residents in cultivating resilient, sustainable landscapes suited to the Sarasota–Charlotte region.

Admission is free, though space-limited guided tours require advance tickets available through Eventbrite. For more information, contact UF/IFAS Extension Charlotte County at 941-764-4340.
