County offices announce Labor Day closures

Sarasota and Charlotte counties announced government office and service closures for Monday, September 1, in observance of Labor Day.

In Sarasota County, most government offices will be closed, including libraries and historical resources, UF/IFAS Extension and Sustainability offices, Breeze Transit administrative offices, recreation facilities, and solid waste facilities such as the Central County Landfill and Citizens’ Convenience Center. The Supervisor of Elections, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser, Clerk of Court and Comptroller, and Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County will also be closed.

Regular Breeze bus service, the 76 Flyer, and Plus services will not operate on Monday, though the 77 Siesta Islander and OnDemand services will run on normal schedules. Trash, recycling, and yard waste collection will shift by one day, running Tuesday through Saturday. Regular collection resumes Monday, September. 8. The Central County Landfill will extend hours on Saturday, September 6, until 5 p.m., though its construction and demolition area will close at 2 p.m.

In Charlotte County, government business offices, tax and property offices, the Supervisor of Elections, visitor and convention bureau, utilities customer service, transit, human services, and community services administration will be closed. Libraries, recreation centers, and the Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center will also be closed. Fire and EMS headquarters will close, but stations will remain open.

Curbside garbage collection will run on its regular schedule. The Zemel Road Landfill will be open, while the Mid-County and West County transfer facilities will close. Centennial Park Recreation Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the county’s pools will offer limited morning hours for passholders and recreational swimming from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Captain Don Cerbone Memorial Skate Park will remain open, while the J.M. Berlin/Rotary Skate Park will be closed.
