EFD Celebrates New Engine 72 With Push-In Ceremony

The Englewood Fire Department marked a proud milestone Monday morning with a traditional Push-In ceremony to welcome the new Engine 72. Staff, family members, and community residents joined firefighters to take part in the longstanding fire service tradition of manually pushing the new vehicle into its bay, a nod to the early days of firefighting when horse-drawn engines had to be pushed back into the station after a call. The new E-ONE Typhoon Rescue Pumper features a 1,000-gallon water tank, a 1,250-gallon-per-minute pump, and advanced battery-operated extrication tools. Designed as a versatile unit, Engine 72 combines the capabilities of a standard pumper and a rescue truck, allowing the department to respond to a wide range of emergencies with increased efficiency. “This new pumper enhances our department’s safety, efficiency, and capability,” said Fire Chief Kevin Easton. “It will allow us to respond more effectively to emergencies, protect our citizens, and support our firefighters and their lifesaving work.” Engine 72, ordered in September 2023 for $747,225, represents a major investment in Englewood’s public safety infrastructure. Chief Easton credited the department’s personnel for giving the new engine its true purpose. “Our team of men and women at the Englewood Fire Department brings this truck to life, ensuring it serves its purpose of saving lives and protecting property.”
