Sarasota County School Board Chair Tim Enos announced today he will resign effective August 24, 2025, to return as Chief of Police for the district. A veteran in school safety, his law enforcement experience spans over 30 years.
Enos, a veteran school safety leader, was elected to the School Board in 2022 and chosen by his colleagues as Board Chair in November 2024. He previously served as the district’s police chief from November 2018 to January 2022 before stepping down to run for the board. Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to appoint a successor to fill the remainder of Enos’s term, which runs through 2026.
“While it has been an honor to serve as a School Board member and Board Chair, my deepest passion has always been ensuring the safety of our students and staff,” Enos said in a statement. “This new role allows me to focus all my efforts on strengthening school safety and continuing the work I have dedicated much of my career to.”
Superintendent Terry Connor called Enos “the ideal choice for this critical position,” citing his unmatched expertise and decades of experience in law enforcement and school safety.
Enos’s career spans more than 30 years in law enforcement, including 22 years of direct experience working with schools. He is the former executive director of the Florida Association of School Resource Officers and has testified before the Florida Legislature on school safety following the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. In Sarasota County, he has led significant safety enhancements across the district.
The board will select a new chair following Enos’s departure.
