Explore new outdoor skills with North Port Parks & Recreation

The North Port Parks & Recreation Department is offering a variety of programs this fall designed to help residents of all ages stay active, learn new skills and enjoy the outdoors. From archery and sports basics to guided kayak tours and lifesaving certifications, there are opportunities for everyone.

Archery Programs
Adult Archery
will be held at the Morgan Family Community Center, 6207 W. Price Blvd., on Thursdays from September 11 to October 2, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., or Saturdays from September 13 to October 4, 9 to 10 a.m. The $30 fee includes all equipment.
Beginning Archery, for ages 8 to 17, will be offered at the George Mullen Activity Center, 1602 Kramer Way, on Tuesdays from October 7-28 or Thursdays from October 9-30, 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Sessions cost $30 and include equipment.

Certification Courses
Teens ages 11 to 15 can participate in the Babysitter Certification & CPR course, offered in partnership with the American Red Cross. The course covers pediatric first aid, CPR and leadership skills. Two sessions will be held September 12-13 and November 7-8 at the Morgan Family Community Center. The fee is $75, and attendance is required on both days for certification.
Adults and teens may also register for First Aid CPR and AED Training on October 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Morgan Family Community Center. The course, certified by the American Red Cross, meets OSHA workplace requirements and includes hands-on training. Class size is limited to 10 participants. The fee is $60.
Outdoor Adventures
North Port Eco-Adventures invites residents to explore local waterways on a guided kayak tour. Participants will learn about area flora and fauna during a paddle on Oct. 11 from 8 to 10 a.m. The cost is $10 with kayak rental or $5 if bringing your own. All ages are welcome.

Youth Programs
The Intro to Sports program gives children in kindergarten through fifth grade the chance to try a variety of youth sports in a fun, instructional setting. Classes will be held Wednesdays from October 29 to November 19, 6 to 7 p.m., at the George Mullen Activity Center. The fee is $25.
