The OneBlood Big Red Bus will be at Venice City Hall, 401 W. Venice Ave., for a blood drive on Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you’ve been thinking about donating, this is the perfect time. The holidays and colder weather are right around the corner, and every winter, blood supplies take a hit as people get busy or sidetracked.

Hospitals don’t pause for the season, and they still need blood for trauma, surgeries, transplants, and cancer treatments. Red blood cells only last 42 days, so regular donations are crucial.
Donating now helps fight those pre-holiday shortages. People often skip giving blood this time of year because they’re traveling, under the weather, or simply distracted. Cold snaps and winter storms can force blood drive cancellations, making it harder to keep the supply steady.
OneBlood urges city employees and anyone feeling healthy to step up and give the “gift of life.” Patients count on this supply year-round, regardless of the season. Make sure it’s been at least 56 days since your last whole blood donation. Bring ID, and you’re good to go.
All donors get a $20 eGift Card, a OneBlood sweatshirt, a wellness check (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, iron count, cholesterol screening), and a snack. Appointments make things easier, but walk-ins are always welcome.
