The U.S. National Weather Service says a system in the eastern Gulf, Invest 91L, is ramping up fast and looks almost certain to develop. They’re giving it an 80% shot at becoming a tropical depression or even a named storm within 48 hours, starting Sunday, July 19, 2026.

Right now, this patch of low pressure is sitting in the northeastern Gulf. Forecasters expect it to organize quickly as it pushes west-northwest. The biggest issue is heavy rain. The downpours target Florida’s west coast, the Panhandle, and the northern Gulf Coast, with totals anywhere from 3 to 6 inches or more. Localized flooding looks likely.

Invest 91L is not expected to bring any direct impacts to Southwest Florida, though it will cause an increase in unsettled weather. The disturbance is anticipated to drift mostly to the north and northwest, keeping the core of the system away from Englewood and the surrounding communities.
NOAA Hurricane Hunters are already on the scene, investigating the system. If this storm earns a name, they’ll call it Bertha. For now, it’s a waiting game, but one thing’s pretty clear: parts of Florida and the Gulf Coast should brace for a soaking.
