Meet Splash the Search-And-Rescue Otter at North Port’s Hurricane Expo

Splash, the search-and-rescue otter

You don’t see a search-and-rescue otter every day, but yes, Splash is the real deal, and you can meet him at the North Port Hurricane Expo on April 18.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the George Mullen Activity Center. Splash will be there with his team from the Peace River K-9 Search and Rescue Association Inc. (PRSAR), ready to show you what search-and-rescue really looks like.

PRSAR puts in serious work across the country, tracking down missing people and helping families in crisis. Their volunteers don’t just rely on dogs, they bring in unique partners, and Splash is the perfect example. He handles rescue situations that stump even the toughest K9. Meeting him in person shakes up everything you think you know about animal rescue teams.

The expo’s not just about meeting Splash, though. It’s your chance to pick up practical tips before the storm season. Experts from North Port Emergency Management, Sarasota County Emergency Management, the National Weather Service, and North Port Public Works & Utilities will be there to answer questions and share the latest on hurricane safety.

Bring your curiosity and your questions. The Hurricane Expo is free and open to the public, and an opportunity to see Splash and the PRSAR team in action. Don’t miss the chance to get ready for hurricane season and meet some true local heroes along the way.
