The guest speaker at a recent meeting for the Rotary Club of Rotonda spoke about the Charlotte County Imagination Library. This program is open to all pre-school age children in Charlotte and Sarasota Counties, and enrolled children receive a book each month until they turn five years old to encourage reading and literacy skills. There is no cost to the participants. This Imagination Library branch is the local affiliate for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program. There are currently 2,438 active children receiving books in Charlotte County alone. If a child is enrolled at birth and stays in the program until age five, they will have received 60 books for their own personal library. If there are siblings in the home, they too can be receiving a book as long as they are under age five. In Charlotte County, the program starts at the delivery area in hospitals. Books are received through the mail. Those interested in enrolling a child in Charlotte County can do so through a link at charlottecountyimaginationlibrary.org. For Sarasota County enrollment, go directly to the national Imagination Library website at imaginationlibrary.com. Financial sponsorships by individuals and busineses to help support the program are most welcome. The Rotary Club of Rotonda makes periodic donations and you can also be a part of giving the gift of literacy by donating online at thecharlottecountyimaginationlibrary.org or in person at the Purple House Salon at 312 Sullivan Street, Punta Gorda. Your gift of $26 provides one child with a year’s worth of books (one book a month).
