The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 113, 3436 Indiana Rd, Rotonda West, recently hosted a Fashion Show Luncheon at the Post. Fashions were provided by Off the Wave, 409 W. Dearborn Street. The show featured many wonderful items for purchase and were modeled so they could be appreciated. This fundraiser benefited Neighboring Military Children, Kids’ Needs, The Literacy Center, and The Boys and Girls Club. Thank you to all those who attended and sent in donations. Cahal Dunne in Concert
American Legion Post #113 (3436 Indiana Road, Rotonda West) will present “Ireland’s Happy Man”, Cahal Dunne, in concert on Saturday, February 10th at the Post. Tickets are $25 per person and include dinner of salad, pork loin, dressing, roll, green beans, au gratin potatoes and cheesecake at 4:30pm and the show begins at 6pm. Dunne has appeared on David Letterman, PBS, Entertainment Tonight and has performed for several American Presidents. Do not miss this fantastic show! This show is open to the public. Texas Hold’Em Tournament
The Rotary Club of Rotonda is hosting a Texas Hold’Em Tournament on Saturday, February 10th at the Rotonda Golf & Country Club, 100 Rotonda Circle. There will be $3,000 in cash prizes. Blackjack, side games, 50/50, Superbowl pool, top ten payout, re-buys. Professional dealers. Tickets are $100 in advance; $125 at the door. Registration begins at 5:30pm with the first hand at 7pm. Superbowl Party at the Post
Rotonda American Legion Post 113 invites you to come party with them on Superbowl Sunday, February 11th. Doors open at 5:30pm, the game starts at 6:30pm. At 7pm enjoy a buffet featuring wings, meatballs, pizza, and chips/dip for only $10 a person. Watch the game on one of the eight TVs. Game boards & 50/50. The Post is located at 3436 Indiana Road. Adult Sailing Lessons
Englewood Sailing Association is offering Adult Learn to Sail classes in February and March. The four-day small boat learn to sail classes are held at Indian Mound Park, 210 Winson Avenue and cost $275. Must be 18 years old or older and must be able to swim. The class session in February is two weekends, February 3 & 4 and February 10 & 11, 10am to 2pm. The March session meets Monday through Thursday, March 4-7, from 10am to 2pm. Valentine Dinner/Dance
Be My Valentine! American Legion Auxiliary Unit 113, Rotonda West, will be hosting a “Be My Valentine Dinner Dance” on Wednesday, February 14. This event is open to the public. The cost is $20 per person and the menu will include dinner salad, chicken cordon bleu, mashed potatoes, vegetable, and dessert. Cash bar. Cocktails are at 4pm; dinner served at 5pm, and music by The Frogs Band of Punta Gorda from 6 to 9pm. Every lady receives a carnation (flowers donated by Sons of the American Legion Squadron 113) and everyone receives a Favor Box. Tickets may be purchased at the bar and at the door. Rummage & Plant Sale
Mark your calendars for the Lemon Bay Garden Club’s annual rummage and plant sale, held at the Lemon Bay Garden Club, 480 Yale Street. Rummage sale hours are Thursday, February 15, 10am-1pm pre-sale for $3 donation, Friday, February 16, from 9am-1pm free admission, and Saturday, February 17 from 9am-1pm for the $5 bag sale. Designer Bag Bingo
The GFWC Rotonda West Womans Club, Inc, in collaboration with the South Gulf Cove HOA, is sponsoring a fun fundraiser and a chance to win a designer bag…just by playing bingo! Mark your calendar for Sunday, February 18th. The location is the South Gulf Cove HOA Clubhouse, 14859 Ingraham Blvd., Port Charlotte. The cost is $40 per person in advance and $45 at the door. This includes one set of bingo sheets for 12 games. Additional game sheets are $10. Purses include Coach, Dooney & Bourke, Kate Spade, and more (all are new with tags). Proceeds will benefit Back Pack Kidz, St. David’s Jubilee Center, and GFWC RWWC programs (all are 501c3 charitable organizations). Doors open at 11:30am for designer bag preview and the opportunity ticket sales/silent auction begins. At noon, bingo begins promptly. Space is limited; get your tickets early. Everyone is welcome. Englewood Genealogical Society will hold a special interest group on DNA on Thursday, February 22, 1 to 4:45pm, at the Elsie Quirk Library, 100 W. Dearborn Street. Sue Carlson will discuss the ever-changing set of tools for DNA results and shared matches. Have your DNA questions answered and share your DNA search stories. Zoom participation is available by registering online at egsfl.org. The public is welcome to attend.



Get to Know MyHeritage
The speaker for the February membership meeting of the Englewood Genealogical Society of Florida will be Daniel Horowitz, genealogy expert with MyHeritage, who will present MyHeritage Features and Benefits. The meeting will be held at the Elsie Quirk Library, 100 W. Dearborn Street, on Thursday, February 22, 10:30am to noon. MyHeritage and Mr. Horowitz are based in Israel. He will provide a detailed walkthrough of the latest features from MyHeritage and show you how to make the most of them. This meeting is free and open to the public. Zoom participation is available by registering at egsfl.org.

Englewood Area Orchid Society will be hosting their annual Show and Sale on Saturday & Sunday, February 23 & 24, 10am to 5pm. The event will be held at the Tringali Community Center, 3460 N. Access Rd. The theme for the show is “Orchids by the Sea”. Venice Area Orchid Society and Sarasota Orchid Society will also be participating in this show. There will be over 2,600 square feet of sales and exhibits, retail orchids and supplies and great raffles available. Take advantage of free professional advice and culture information. Englewood Orchid Show

RWWC Offers Scholarships
The GFWC Rotonda West Womans Club is offering two (2) Bella Williams Memorial Continuing Education Scholarships of $1,500 each. Applicants should be from the Englewood/Rotonda West/South Gulf Cove area and pursuing advanced education or retraining in a college or vocational school. The scholarships are intended for adults returning to school who have had an interruption in their studies. A resume, narrative and letters of reference may be sent to GFWC Rotonda West Womans Club, Attention: Scholarship, PO Box 672, Placida, FL 33946. Low Country Boil
Widow Sons Knights of the East will be having a Low County Boil on Saturday, February 24, 1 to 5pm, at Manatee Cove of Englewood (formerly Holiday Estates 1 & 2), 1445 Seagull Drive. They will be serving crab legs, shrimp, crawfish, corn, and potatoes. Drinks available for a donation. MacDaddy will provide the music. Cost is $25 per person. Have fun line dancing with Eve on Thursday mornings, 9:30 to 11:30am, at the American Legion Post 113, 3436 Indiana Road. It’s great exercise for your body and mind with great music.
